The 10th Annual Balloons over the Mississippi will be held Friday July 20 and Saturday July 21, 2012 and planning of the festival is well underway. The Balloon committee announces this years event will be bigger and better and in a new location at Rodeo Park in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Because of the sensitive nature of ballooning, weather conditions play a vital role in determining whether a balloon can take off or not. If the conditions are not just right, the balloonists have to make last minute launch location changes and hurriedly pack up and take off to a more suitable location to launch, causing confusion to the public.

The event will take place at Scenic Drive in Rodeo Park. It lends itself nicely for handicap parking and a secure area for children and their families to enjoy the event without concern for traffic; along with providing shade during the hottest part of the Midwest summers.

This year’s event will include live music on both Friday and Saturday nights, a beer garden, the fantastic traditional “Balloon Glows” each night, food vendors, and so much more. In addition to the fun festivities the event will feature mass balloon launches and competitive balloon races not to mention the fabulous firework display following Saturday’s balloon glow.
